#Baghdad_Women_Association’s Counseling and Listening Center in Seiji, Dohuk, started implementing the third part of activities aiming to engage men and boys in awareness programmes on gender equality and gender-based violence.
The activities are held as part of the project "Strengthening the Resilience of Syrian Women, Girls and Host Communities in Iraq" which is supported by United Nations Women and the European Trust Fund “Madad”.
The activities started with a meeting on 21 August 2019 in the presence of 20 participants, focusing on the concept of equality and means of tackling violence against women.
On 3 September, the centre launched a series of week-long educational seminars in the village of Siji. The first of these seminars was held at the Church of Markorkis in the village of Seiji. The seminar, addressing the issue of gender equality in accordance with the teachings of the Bible and the Catholic Church, was presented by Pastor Sami John Markhaya. The second seminar, at the Seiji centre, was presented by human rights expert Stefan Ashot Abdo, shedding light on gender equality in international law and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948.
