    Refusing to legitimize sectarianism in Personal Status Law

    The lawyer Rasha Khaild, representative of Baghdad Women Association participated in discussion meeting on (Refusing to legitimize sectarianism in Personal Status Law) held by Iraqi Women Network in collaboration with Iraqi Al-Amal Association on 10th of June 2017, 25 feminist activists of CSO attended the meeting. The judge Hadi Azeiz was the meeting facilitator, the meeting focused on making a Legislative comparison between Iraqi personal status law no.188 for year 1959 and between the new amendments which wanted to be passed, and the negative results that will affect the principle of equality among citizens in the law text 14 of the Iraqi Constitution and establish the torn the social cohesion which is related on the mixed marriage relations and also affect the Judicial Independence Unit and make it related to the Suni, Shiite advisory scientific council, as well as it clearly opposed to the principles of democracy, and are in direct contradiction with international obligations and human rights charters. The meeting concluded by putting a united action plan consists of immediate withdrawal of the suggested amendment.
